Hemorrhoids are swollen veins in the anus and lower part of the rectum. Hemorrhoids look like varicose veins. Hemorrhoids can develop in the rectum, called internal hemorrhoids. They can also develop under the skin around the anus, called external hemorrhoids. Anyone can suffer from symptomatic hemorrhoids, including teenagers. (However, because hemorrhoids take time to develop, they are rare in children.)
